DUE TO THE LARGE VOLUME OF APPLICATIONS CURRENTLY ON FILE, WE HAVE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED ACCEPTING NEW VOLUNTEERS AT THIS TIME.  PLEASE CHECK BACK AGAIN.

Volunteers at the Toledo Area Humane Society are caring people with individual skills, talents and interests who advocate for animal welfare as representatives of the organization's philosophies and beliefs.

In addition, volunteers provide support to supplement and enhance the professional staff, creating a team that works together towards our established vision as well as allow us to extend our valuable community programs otherwise limited by financial resources.

"How can I become a TAHS Volunteer?"

Volunteers must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by a parent if under age 16. We request that our volunteers commit to at least 10 hours per month for a minimum of 6 months.

All volunteers must complete an online application, followed by a telephone interview.  If accepted into the TAHS volunteer program you will be required to attend a three hour orientation before beginning volunteer service.

Orientations are offered each month, and include important information about our organization's programs and services along with a description of each volunteer opportunity as well as a tour of the facility.

There are several volunteer jobs that require additional training sessions.

"What happens after I submit my application?"

After we receive your completed online application, you will be contacted to set up a telephone interview.  If accepted into our the TAHS volunteer program, you will be required to attend the next available orientation date.

All volunteers should be current on tetanus vaccinations and carry health insurance. Please remember that while we take great care to ensure your safety, we are housing animals that are sometimes unpredictable. Good judgment and safe animal handling are a must when volunteering at TAHS.

"I'm a student in need of service hours for school (or church).  Can I do my hours at the Humane Society?"

Unfortunately, due to the vast number of students in need of service hours for school and/or church, we are no longer able to offer student service learning opportunities.  However, please check our website for a list of projects and activities that can benefit the animals and earn student hours.

If you have additional questions, please contact Mary Moser, Director of Volunteers at (419) 891-1561.
